Project # 1: Teleportation

Description: Using your knowledge of Photoshop layers and selection tools you will “teleport” a person or object from one setting to another. Teleportation is just a fun name for a basic two image composition but working with layers and making clean selections are two of the most important core Photoshop skills.

Project # 2: Photo Restoration
Description: You will find a scratched or otherwise damaged photo to be scanned and repaired using Photoshop. The photo will be scanned at 300 dpi to allow for printing and re-sizing if desired. You are not required to print the finished project but if you are restoring an old family photo you may want to print the result.

Project #3: Photo Collage
Description: A photographic collage is a great way of demonstrating how you take images and produce an artistic piece that both communicates and entertains. In Photoshop, create a multi-layered composition of images that communicate a particular theme or message. The message itself depends on the content and placement of the photos that you choose for your collage, among other things.

Project # 4: Logo Design
Description: A logo, also known as a trademark, is an identifying mark for a product, service, or organization. Using your knowledge of the Principles of Iconography and Logo Design you will create two logo designs in Adobe Illustrator. You will design one logo for a non-Internet business or service. The second logo will be designed for your own marketing materials (portfolio, business cards, resume).

Project # 5: Art Site Design Composition
Description: Using Photoshop you’ll apply what you’ve learned about usability and visual design to create an effective website layout for an art related site. This site can be about a photographer, artist, art gallery or a museum. Next, take some time to research other art related sites on the web for ideas on the kinds of layouts and design elements they use. When your research is complete, you should be ready to create layouts that account well for user needs, owner needs and the appropriate visual style for the subject. You will be creating two layouts – one for the index page and one content page. The layouts may be very similar or they may be significantly different depending on the objectives for the page.

Project # 6 Marketing Site
Description: For your first full-lifecycle project you’ll be creating a marketing site. Creating a marketing site is an excellent first project for many reasons. Foremost of which is the lesson in communication you will learn while creating this site. Create a multi-page web site that sells a product (3 Pages Minimum), a service, a product or a person (like a politician). The focus of the site is to construct a clear, coherent message to your intended audience. Therefore, you need to know your product as well as whom your target audience is. The site should convince members of your audience why your product, service or person is the best choice. You’ll do this through the content of your site (both text and graphics). You’ll be going through a full project lifecycle, You will start with a flowchart and an interface design layout. Once you cleared your project with your instructor, you will then produce the site’s pages.

Project # 7 Site Redesign
Description: Basically you’ll be identifying a website that is desperately in need of a facelift and then working your magic on that site. Once you select a site and get approval from the Instructor, you’ll either need to get written permission to re-design the site for educational purposes or you’ll need to totally re-brand the site and all content with a fictional name. This will be your second fully functional website. As such you will be applying everything you’ve learned to this point.

Project # 8 The Flash Commercial
Description: Create a 10 to 30 second web-based commercial for a particular product, real or imaginary. The commercial will try to sell or advertise a product/brand and link it to a web site.
• No less than 10 seconds and no more than 30 seconds for the complete animation.
• The project will run at 18 to 24 frames per second.
• The commercial sells a single consumer product only, no multiples and no services.
• The commercial can make use of a sound track. Background music, voiceover or both (optinal)
• The commercial should make use of images (bitmapped or vector), shapes and text in an interesting design.
• The commercial must have a link to a website. The entire Flash Commercial can be a link.

Project # 9: The Group Apparel Site
Description: Create an E-Commerce looking site using a combination of Flash, HTML and CSS. You can use Javascript for form validations. The site will contain all the necessary pages of any site (Home, about us, contact us, etc.) as well as display a minimum of 5 product in a products page (e.g. shirts, shoes..etc) on this site. The apparel site will be a full life-cycle group team project. A proposal will be due to your instructor with project scope. You will also provide a flowchart, an sketched-up mock-up of your layout, a cleaned up version of your layout and a design comp. Each team will have 4 or 5 members each with various roles and responsibilities based on their strengths and weaknesses. One person in each team will be designated the liaison to the client (yours truly) and serve as the contact for the team.
