Kathy Anderson Portfolio
Hello
Hello and welcome to my KIP Portfolio. My name is Kathy Anderson and I'm a graphic designer. I've been in the field of graphic design for 25 years, 19 of those years were in the field of broadcast design. I attended Ringling School of Art and Design, majoring in the Graphic Design field. I can now add Kennesaw State's KIP Class of Continuing Education to that list having studied their course in Web Design.
In this KIP Portfolio you'll find projects that were done especially for the KIP Course and a link to an external website that will show examples of past work from over the years including print, animation and Flash. All of the design work begins with Photoshop. No matter what project I'm given that is my program of choice to begin any design with. Then depending on the end result that design will then be prepped to go either into After Effects, Flash or Quark and now Dreamweaver.
Feel free to explore this website to get a feel for my work. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.

Creative Masking
Guidelines
Use Photoshop's masking abilities
Knowing how to use Photoshop's masking abilities is essential to being able to create good design. In most everything I do I use the masking tools in one way or another. Be it Alfa Channels or the masking tool on each layer. On this project I used the masking tool for each layer to create the Boomerang.
Retouching a Photograph
Guidelines
Use Photoshop's retouching tools and layers to restore an old, damaged photograph
The object here was to take an old, damaged photo and restore it to it's former glory. Using Photoshop and it's adjustment layers, cloning tool and the healing brush to retouch the photo.
Collage
Guidelines
Use Photoshop to create an image that makes a statement. Use a minimum of four images (images only, no cartoons, drawings, font etc.)
This was one of my favorite projects. I'm sure everyone will come up with their own meaning to the picture, but I think most people will get the general idea. The poaching and killing of endangered species in Africa. I used lots of different images from various free photo sites as well as textures to create the desired effect. Masking was heavily used in this project on both the animals and some of the backgrounds.
Logo Design
Guidelines
Create two logos, each with a color and b&w version. No clipart or bitmaps
Logo design, I believe is one of the hardest things a graphic designer has to do. It's very subjective. Designing a logo for myself is one thing. I know what I want. Designing for a client isn't as easy. I used Illustrator here for my logos. I created the dog almost entirely using the elipse tool.
Illustration
Guidelines
Create a realistic illustration in Illustrator. No clipart or bitmaps
Illustration isn't always a cartoon. Using the pen tool and gradients, I created this guitar.

Poetry
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, a Robert Frost poem, is my pick for this poetry site design. Using Photoshop for the design of the page and Dreamweaver for coding it.
Gallery
I chose Dinosaurs for my gallery design. Not typical, but what a great subject to work with. I researched lots of different natural history sites to gather info, see the different ways the sites were handled and to gather pictures for the site. I did go big with this site. I wanted to make a huge splash with the home page, to make a big statement and to make it exciting enough that you'd just have to come to see the dinosaurs at the museum. I do feel I accomplished my goal. I used photoshop for the design and Dreamweaver to code it.
Site Redesign
In learning about designing websites I have realized that I design some complicated projects to code and part of me is okay with that,if I'm not the one trying to figure out how to code what was designed. Of course now that I am having to code the projects I design, I'm still okay with it. It is tough to figure out, but I feel it's worth it in the end.
Heel Fido Website
This is the marketing site for Heel Fido. Why design a marketing logo and then not use it for the marketing site? Part of my work was already done for me with the logo already designed. Now I must admit I changed the logo around some. As with most things you go through a growing process and revamping your logo and site to keep the page looking fresh and new. So, I modified the logo to make sure I gave the site an updated and fresh feel.
Flash and Multimedia
In this Flash project we were to create an animation about one specific product. I chose my Dinosaurs website as my product. A product doesn't always have to be an item. It can also be a place or person that needs to be advertised as well.

Above is the link to my external website. No, I did not design this site. Before I knew anything about web design and how to code, I joined this site to show my off my work to hopefully, future employers and to possible gain some freelance work. Now that I have some knowledge about about web design, coding and css, I'll move to include some of my other work into this site. Once that happens, I still might keep this site as it is a good source for freelance work from across the country.
